Cambree Turns 6! | Boise Children Photographer

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you may remember Cambree.  I’ve done birthday portraits for her for a few years. Here she’s  four. And here she’s the big 0-5.

This year she’s SIX and she has a new baby brother (we snuck in a few shots of Andrew in his stroller).

Cambree has always come to her birthday photo sessions equipped with plenty of poses, expressions and nutty ideas. This year we got a little more theatrical as we wandered around the greenbelt and the Boise State campus. I suggest keeping your eye out for the impromptu mourning session at what looked like a gravestone and for the run-in with the bronco statute.

Hard to believe the years have gone by so quickly…

SOS Orphanage in Panama | Travel Photography

I just returned from a fantastic trip to Panama to help my friends, Christian and Chelsea, celebrate their wedding on the beach.

Also, I took the photos, I drank a pina colada (seriously, just one the whole trip!), I ate ceviche every chance I got, I was nervous about seeing snakes (didn’t see ANY!), I hiked up a jungle to zip-line, I watched a ship pass through the Panama Canal. You know, the usual Panama adventures.

Of all the things we did for the wedding week in Panama, the photos in this post are from one of the highlights.

Let me explain…

Christian and Chelsea are going to be a tough bride and groom act to follow on the generosity meter. They ditched the conventional wedding registry and elected to do something much more meaningful.

The groom’s parents retired in Panama 5 years ago and have been sponsoring a house (about 10 children) at an SOS Orphanage. After visiting the orphanage around Christmas, they decided that in place of wedding gifts they would ask their guests to donate to money to the house in hopes of making much needed repairs to the kitchen and bathroom.

As for the 30 or so friends and family members who attended the destination wedding, they arranged a trip to the orphanage so everyone could deliver gifts, food and necessities straight to the children. Not only did the children get much needed supplies and toys, but WE all got the opportunity to look outside of our lives.

To include the kids from the other houses at the orphanage Christian and Chelsea had the foresight to bring a couple of pinatas for the ALL the kids to take a crack at. Talk about a couple with a good hearts…

I think Chelsea pretty much summed it up as we were loading into the bus to leave when she said, “Wasn’t that way better than a toaster?!”

Labonne Brothers | Boise Child Photographer

These brothers are equal parts adorable and handsome.  They had plenty of silly smiles and brotherly hugs in store for me and my camera. Man, I’m a sucker for ‘kids only’ photo sessions!!

Fathers with girls under age 7? Mark your calendars to hide your daughters in a several years!

Settlers Park | Boise Photographer

Settler’s Park in Meridian is a pretty impressive place. Between the fields for sports games and the pond for fishing, most kids will stay busy. There is also a really cool playground area with a rubbery-bouncy floor, a “rock” to climb, musical toys and a splash pad. Pretty awesome place to take kids or some adults.

Shop. The Children’s Store | Boise Photographer

I don’t have kids, nor do I spend much time in children’s stores. Though I’m no connoisseur of kid’s retail shops I must say that I was quite impressed with The Children’s Store on Orchard. First, it was way bigger than I expected it to be from its storefront. Secondly, their shop really does seem to have a happy harmony of fun and educational toys. Last but certainly not least, they had the sweetest little shop cat. She followed me around and convinced me (with all her purring) that she loves her life as the beloved Children’s Store cat.

Now that I’ve hit the age where all my friends are having kids, I will have to do my best to get to remember to go here for gifts!
